Abstract

We are in midst of fundamental shift from a Device/Application centric world to an Information centric world. This shift affects both technology and business models, and opens up big opportunities at the same time. In order to be successful in this new world, companies need to invest in the right technologies, business models and partnerships.

People are increasingly defined by, and invested in, a body of personal digital information. People don't want this info trapped in specific devices and applications. Devices and applications will come and go. But information and people's investment in it, must live on. Personal computers, web browsers, desktop software (including operating systems) will no longer be at the center of computing in the future. Instead, who holds people's information holds the key to tomorrow's success.

With the establishment of its Cloud Infrastructure and Services Division, EMC is uniquely positioned to play a key role in this Information centric world. Through its Mozy online backup and other upcoming Cloud based offerings, EMC will be able to provide consumers and businesses with security, protection, and ubiquitous access to their information. It will also help owners of the information get the maximum value.

EMC's China R&D Center was established in 2006. Now it has more than 600 employees and contractors working at its Beijing and Shanghai facilities. The China R&D Center is playing an increasingly important role in EMC's global Cloud strategy as well as helping build the best Cloud products and services for the China market.
